The effective delivery and presentation of information is critically dependent on understanding the context in which that information is to be used. However, a keyword based approach to defining and managing context has limited effectiveness, e.g. through the prevalence of homonymy and synonymy. Context needs to be defined semantically, specifically in terms of an ontology. Moreover, the interpretation of ontologies themselves may be interpreted in the light of particular contexts. This workshop will consider all the research challenges related to representing, managing, using and learning contextual information, bringing together researchers interested in the use of context for information delivery, the use of ontologies to define context, and the use of context to interpret ontologies. = Topics = We invite technical contributions and short statements of interest relating to the themes described above. These include: * Ontologies describing user context * frameworks for managing user context * techniques for learning context through an analysis of user interaction, and through machine intelligence and linguistic techniques. * context-based information retrieval and information delivery * context-based information search * the application of context to the identification of tacit knowledge * application of context-based information management * context representation, e.g. context representation languages and the use of ontologies for representing context * user interface research – to enable users to create, use and visualise their context * techniques for measuring the value and effectiveness of semantically defined context management * context usage in applications * the use of context in the interpretation of ontologies Whilst the workshop will consider theoretical issues, there will be a particular encouragement for papers relating to practical implementations. = Program = == Session 1 – context frameworks and context generation == 09.00 Keynote – Marko Grobelnik, Jozef Stefan Institute 10.00 Semantic representation of context models: a framework for analyzing and understanding – Najar et al. 10.30 Interacting with (semi-)automatically extracted context of digital objects – Mayer et al. 11.00 Break == Session 2 – search and recommendation == 11.30 Context shifting for effective search over large knowledgebases – Joseph et al. 12.00 Using social data as context for making recommendations: an ontology based approach – Noor and Martinez 12.30 Panel – an opportunity to discuss the issues with presenters from sessions 1 and 2 13.00 Lunch == Session 3 – task context == 14.00 UICO: an ontology-based user interaction context model for automatic task detection on the computer desktop – Rath et al. 14.30 Using task context to achieve effective information delivery – Warren et al. 15.00 Panel – an opportunity to discuss the issues with presenters from session 3 15.15 Break == Session 4 – applications, mobility and pervasiveness == 15.45 Context management in mobile environments: a semantic approach – Cadenas et al. 16.15 Ontonym: a collection of upper ontologies for developing pervasive systems – Stevenson et al. 16.45 Covering the semantic space of tourism: an approach based on modularised ontologies – Barta et al. 17.15 Panel – an opportunity to discuss the issues with all presenters 17.45 Close = Important Dates = * Submission deadline: March 7th 2009 * Notification: April 4th 2009 * Camera-read version: April 18th 2009 * Workshop day: June 1st 2009 = Submissions = We will accept full papers of up to 15 pages as well as short papers of up to 8 pages.
