This topic is about information extraction, i.e. getting data from any source for further machine-based processing. Is is often used as a synonym for Web Data Extraction.
Information extraction is a part of the Semantic Web Topic Hierarchy. It was introduced in version 1 as described in History of the Semantic Web Topic Hierarchy.
