Workshop on Grand Challenges for Reasoning from Experiences
in conjunction with IJCAI 2009
Reasoning from Experiences is a powerful concept that is utilized within a range of AI technologies and across a variety of application domains such as case-based reasoning, cognitive architectures, transfer learning and recommender systems. The primary goal of this workshop is to provide a forum for cross-fertilization of ideas developed independently within different research communities in the context of reasoning from experiences, for identifying critical issues and directions for research, and for building bridges among these various research communities.
This meeting will provide attendees with a rare opportunity to learn about the progress being made on reasoning from experiences in related research areas, to share their own perspectives, and to learn about potential approaches for addressing key research issues on this topic. Instead of focusing on specific technical issues (e.g., case adaptation, alignment of problem and solution spaces) and tasks (e.g., mixed-initiative recommendation, automated extraction of structured experience from web documents), we shall instead encourage the participants to identify key issues that require further research.
Presentations and accepted papers will provide an opportunity for researchers in a variety of AI subfields to identify these “Grand Challenge” issues, their motivating tasks, and research plans for addressing them.
