[edit] Usage in OntoCleanPaper example

The OntoCleanPaper defines an agent as an entity that plays a causal part in some event.

Each instance of an agent will be dependent on a link to the corresponding event or collection of events. Agents can be a person or natural e.g. the wind.

The moon is the agent which causes tides in the oceans on the earth.

Another example could be the natural cause of an event such as an earthquake or volcanic erruption.

See natural cause for more discussion of this, as anything which has a natural cause will usually have consequences and hence will be the agent of something happening. On that basis specific events e.g. a volcanic erruption can also be a natural cause and have been included in the category.

The next tier below it includes Legal agent.
