CMS
From semanticweb.org
CMS is the abbreviation for a Content Management System. It is also the abbreviation for Configuration Management System, a discipline not too far removed so use with care.
These were first created to enable users of web applications to create and edit web pages who had no experience of web development, and just wanted to create and edit text which usually resides in some sort of template.
Later editions of CMS enabled users to capture all previous versions when it became important for specifically commercial operations to know what content was visible to users and when. CMS which do not have this function loses any previous history when the entry is removed or updated.
