A wiki ˈwiː.kiː <wee-kee> or ˈwɪk.i <wick-ey> is a website that allows users to edit the site's content, often in a completely unrestricted way. Wikis as we know them today were invented in 1995 by Ward Cunningham.
The software used to power a wiki is called a wiki engine.
In essence, the wiki is a vast simplification of the process of creating HTML pages, and thus is a very effective way to exchange information through collaborative effort.
