[edit] Category:Actor who played in Afblijven etc.

Wouldn't it be better if actors who played in Afblijven would be just given by <ask>[[Category:Actor]] [[Played in::Afblijven]] </ask>. This is also what point 3. in the list at Semantic MediaWiki indicates.

I'm not sure what the benefit of having the category Actor who played in Afblijven would be, as the query can already list them.

<ask> Afblijven </ask>

It is experimental, inspired by the remark on Relation:Instance of about "the faster, more powerful, and better supported category system". Currently I also see no advantages.--Patrick 01:55, 5 November 2006 (CET)

[edit] Category:Automobile etc

Should articles that represent a class, such as automobile, be moved completely to the category namespace without having a corresponding article? There are a couple problems with that, at least if it were to be done on Wikipedia. One is that the page can't be moved, so the article's history will be deleted. The other is that a a very large number of articles would be moved to the category namespace which traditionally haven't been used in that way. Fuelbottle 16:57, 9 November 2006 (CET)

History has to preserved, of course, e.g. by making a redirect (here I have been deleting small pages because redirects have given problems in the past). However, combining relations between pages becomes complicated and more limited if some are expressed in terms of the category page and some in terms of the page in the main namespace.--Patrick 18:08, 9 November 2006 (CET)
On Wikipedia an article is never moved to the category namespace. Instead, Wikipedia frequently has articles and categories about the same thing, there's even the {{catmore}} template to link a category to its article with The main article for this category is 'name' . This is another good reason why Wikipedia's categories are usually plural and its articles singular -- the category "Automobiles" is promising different information than the article "Automobile". -- Skierpage 13:12, 30 November 2006 (CET)
