Latte Macchiato

A latte macchiato is a latte (espresso with steamed milk topped with foam), but instead of having the espresso shots on the bottom, pouring the espresso on top of the foam. These shots should also be ristretto shots, which are shots taken out about halfway through the duration of the pull. You are left with half a shot, containing the crema and some of the body. This shot is considered sweeter because it does not contain the "heart".

A popular variant of this drink is the "Caramel macchiato" served by Starbucks which is a Latte macchiato with vanilla syrup and caramel topping.
