[edit] Motivations
The Web is considered as the most important information space in our modern society. Human beings have been trying to reflect their interests and life styles on the Web, but the participation in contributing social content has to date been limited. Web 2.0 plays an important role in facilitating the participation by providing an architectural platform to enable linking data in various formats from various sources. However, the further the data on a system is linked, the more difficult it becomes to interlink data across heterogeneous sources. This poses critical problems with connecting data across different systems.
Social Semantics are believed to lend a hand with overcoming this situation. In general, the term Social Semantics refers to a combination of social and semantic technologies. Social Semantic technologies provide solutions towards bridging the gap between the Semantic Web and Web 2.0.
The goal of this half-day workshop is to provide a platform for discussing research topics underlying the concepts of Social Semantics for Linked Data. Participants can look forward to:
- discussing approaches to facilitate socially-aware on the Web;
- presenting novel applications that consume Web data;
- performing critical research and present practical issues associated with Social Data and Data Portability of the Web of Data.
By bringing together representatives of academia and industry, the workshop is also a means for identifying new research problems and disseminating results of the research and practice.
The aim of this workshop is to cover all aspects that relate to research and practical issues of Social Semantics and Linked Data. Topics of interest include:
- Linked Data
- Data Portability
- Applications that publish, interlink, and query the Web of Data
- Social Tagging and Folksonomies
- Social Networks
- Collective Intelligence
- Web 2.0
- Semantic Web
- Semantic wikis
- Trust and privacy in social applications
