[edit] Why Semantic Wikis?
What is the territory of Semantic Wikis?
- Like normal wikis, but more sophisticated, doing everything better:
- improved navigation
- improved presentation
- improved search
- personalisation
- Making the structure declarative helps in some wiki-tasks e.g. re-factoring can benefit from having declarative underlying models/structures.
- Different areas
- difference between Internet and Intranet
- difference in the size of the community
- Interoperability (Wikis are good Web citizens but bad "intranet citizens")
- between different Wikis
- with other applications, particularly in corporate environments
- Educational effects, giving users a first introduction to knowledge based systems so that they can use more sophistaced systems later (WYSIWYG -> Wikitext)
[edit] Applications
- as a knowledge base (Wikipedia)
- for knowledge management
- for project management
- for personal information management
- information retrieval in a general sense (replacement for Google)
