Hi Denny,
I think the integration of an WYSIWYG editor is the only way to get the acceptance to introduce a new system in a company. During my internship i tried to create a knowledge management platform for all employees.
To get the developer into the boat is no problem, but in my wiki, mainly management tasks should be stored and related to eachother (SMW). And when i imagine, that the managers, finacial people and secretaries should write in wiki syntax, i have no hope for success...
There should be a editor, simpler than FCKeditor, without colors and font size... , that only supports the standard wiki syntax and should have a interface for own extensions... So i could write my todo extension, klick the button and fill out a form in a popupwindow, similar to the external links in FCKeditor. --Brs 00:05, 18 August 2006 (CEST)
- I think such a discussion is better be done at the mailing-lists.
- Anyway, it might be interresting to have a kind of graphical UI for adding some semantic statements at the end of the article. There are already such extensions like Agora wich has a GUI for adding Categories.
- Personally I think about something like the following:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+ Statements of Article "Germany" +
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
| |
| Namespace Relation/Attribute Value |
| +---------+---+ +-----------------+---+ +------------+ +--------+ |
| |default | V | |Attribute:Area | V | | 357,050km² | | Delete | |
| +---------+---+ +-----------------+---+ +------------+ +--------+ |
\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/|
and so on...
\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/|
| +---------+---+ +-----------------+---+ +------------+ +--------+ |
| |default [ V | |Relation:Borders | V | | Denmark | | Delete | |
| +---------+---+ +-----------------+---+ +------------+ +--------+ |
| |
| +--------+ +--------+ +-------------------+ |
| | OK | | Cancel | | Add new Statement | |
| +--------+ +--------+ +-------------------+ |
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------+
- I think such a GUI would be a good idea, but it needs additional coding. So I guess: not for the first release.

That's basically the Wikidata approach, and it's a good one. It changes the current workflow a lot, though. That's why we think that Wikidata and SMW are complementary. --Denny 22:51, 20 August 2006 (CEST)

[edit] Cleanup?
Hi,
Markus Krötzsch wrote me "Maybe Denny will do some automated cleanup". If this means large-scale undoing of people's work, please discuss it first.

- Ah, you read it already on the other page, thanks.--Patrick 17:28, 6 November 2006 (CET)
[edit] SMW0.7
Denny, in case no one has told you & Markus yet, but SMW0.7 ROCKS! (We're running it with MW1.10 and a whole raft of other extensions.) You might want to check out what we're doing at Centiare - we use ASK for all sorts of internal organizational & reporting tasks. It's almost like we have a pseudo open-database system running. Can't wait to see what you guys have in store for the next release. Snerfling 16:21, 1 June 2007 (CEST)
[edit] Bug?
Denny, I had a user pass along an observation that this page was not properly carrying over specific page referencing. If you click on the ellipses for any "Page using ..." links, you'll see they display the first 20, but fail to include any namespace identifiers.
I think I properly configured the namespace index in LocalSettings, as they work elsewhere, so I'm wondering if there is another setting or is this a minor bug? (If it is, it looks like your code could be slightly modified to include the full page path.) What do think? Snerfling 22:28, 1 June 2007 (CEST)
[edit] Wikia
Hi, I think we may have met at Wikimania2007? I talked to someone from your team but didn't remember to write down the name! I'm interested in getting this extension added to Wikia (around 3000 wikis). I understand that there is a new version coming out soon, and that we would be better off installing that rather than installing the current version and then updating them all. I'd like to get it installed as soon as possible, so is there a good way to get informed as soon as it's ready? It might be useful if the guy from our technical team working on this can talk directly with one of you too, just in case of problems. Thanks for any help, and for all your work on this, it's going to be a great addition. Regards -- Sannse 10:06, 29 August 2007 (CEST)
[edit] New user accounts
Hi, I've asked a question here that you may be able to help me with --Zven 01:41, 30 January 2008 (CET)
