I am a senior research scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in the Knowledge Transformation and Integration Group. I am trained as a chemical engineer, but have spent most of my career working on applications of information technology to environmental problems. This has included expert system development, database design, and (in recent years), applications of formal ontologies to knowledge management.

My current work focuses on the use of ontology/semantic web technology to facilitate the more effective use of engineering and social science simulations. I am especially interested in semantically explicit descriptions of simulations as tools for metadata management, resource identification and retrieval, and simulation composition.
