My name is Stefano Costa, I'm from Italy and I was born in 1983.

My personal home page is at http://steko.iosa.it.

I keep a blog at http://blog.linux.it/steko.

I mantain the web portal http://www.iosa.it, dedicated to the relationship between archaeological research and free software. I happen to be also the moderator of the international mailing list http://list.iosa.it which focuses on the same topic.

I'm a member of the Italian Community of Users and Developers of Geospatial Free and Open Source Software GFOSS.

I participate in my local LUG, GLUG, and I'm also a member of the Italian Linux Society

At the moment, my GNU/Linux distro is Debian Testing.

Istituto Internazionale di Studi Liguri is a no-profit cultural institution in which I do my activities as member of the research group (Gruppo Ricerche) in one of its many local chapters.

I am webmaster of this site:

  • http://www.archeologiabizantina.it is a somewhat embrional web portal dedicated to digital resources about late-antique, early-medieval and byzantine archeology in the Mediterranean. Here I'm doing an interesting experiment with the help of MediaWiki for the managing of the whole set of information which comes from a single archaeological excavation. Right now unfortunately, for legal causes from the Greek government, access is restricted to the research team from Università di Siena of which I am part. However, this project is presented at the international congress Archäologie & Computer (Wien, 18-20 October 2006) and on the european "Archeologia e Calcolatori" journal. It's this experiment that is leading me towards the use of a Semantic Wiki for easier structuring of information, export capabilities. Since some years there is also some interesting debate in archaeology about the use of (shared) ontologies for describing ancient findings and today's activities/ideas. Right now we're stuck in a PHP 4 environment at our web hosting, but a local testing installation with the brand new SMW 0.5 is already running. I hope to get this one online soon.

[edit] Archaeology
