User talk:Joris Gillis
Hello everybody,
This project seems to have an unimaginable potential. I read the semantic wikipedia paper. I'm really excited about this Semantic Wikipedia.--JorisGillis 21:12, 21 December 2005 (CET)

[edit] synonyms
Maybe it could be desirable to allow synonyms for relations. Suppose the Relation:is preceded by page enlists its possible synonyms. Whenever someone enters [[comes before::iron age]], this would be replaced by [[is preceded by::iron age]], yes, literally replaced, within the page itself (I have no idea if this is implementable). I think this would be more user-friendly. Relations should be as abstract as possible, while contributing users will most likely think in concrete terms.--Joris Gillis 10:02, 22 December 2005 (CET)
- Changing the code the user has typed in is not a good idea, because than some users might don't get the results they want to have. Peer-Review by Experts and a easily understandable description of the used Relations in the right places might be better. But anyway, a good semantic reasoner will care about synonyms when it can handle owl:SameAs (Relation:is same as). MovGP0 00:51, 23 December 2005 (CET)
- If you make one relation a #REDIRECT to the other in MediaWiki, then it acts like a synonym in Special:Browse, which shows both names of the relation. I thought that this was also the case in queries, but I'm not sure. It doesn't seem to export in RDF. One problem is if it redirects to a property of a different type, then you can't combine the display. -- Skierpage 22:56, 1 September 2007 (CEST)
[edit] Special:SearchTriple
Searchtriple should allow to select namespaces, just like the normal search does. In the normal search, the namespace data is encoded in the url like this: nsx=[1|0]. It would be nice if that was supported in SearchTriple too. --Joris Gillis 17:59, 11 January 2006 (CET)
- On second thoughts, this isn't trivial. You should be able to choose a certain namespace for the subject and others for the objects--Joris Gillis 18:44, 11 January 2006 (CET)
Another issue: there should be a flip-flop button to switch the object and subject and reverse the relationship. The inverse of the relationship should be loaded with an AJAX mechanism.--Joris Gillis 18:47, 11 January 2006 (CET)
[edit] Examples
[edit] progress
Is anything moving? Is there still active development of the semantic wikipedia extension? I'd like to see this integrated in wikipedia as soon as possible. Is there anything I could do to speed up development? Perhaps creating test pages by the dozen? Name it...--Joris Gillis 16:20, 15 January 2006 (CET)
- Huh. I just read this comment here. Actually, your duscussion page is for people who want to discuss with you. If you want to discuss with others, you should look at their discussion pages or send them an email. How should anybody find out that you past something here?
- Your questions has hopefully been answered in the meantime, since development was very active from March to July and will stay that active for the near future. --Markus Krötzsch 09:09, 19 July 2006 (CEST)
[edit] feature request
A drop down box with all entries of category:relation would be nice on the edit page.--Joris Gillis 19:03, 20 January 2006 (CET)
- Same remark as above. To the question: this would become a huge drop down box very quickly. We are working on some AJAX implementation to have a more flexible solution. In the meantime, just use multiple tabs in your browser. --Markus Krötzsch 09:12, 19 July 2006 (CEST)
[edit] Annotations on your user page
Note that we now have a Template:Person to simplify annotating your user page (with some common annotations). Not all of the foaf properties you use have actually been imported into this wiki. foaf:knows is a relation not an attribute, i.e. you should use "::" instead of ":=". --Markus Krötzsch 09:16, 19 July 2006 (CEST)
- Thank you for the information --134.58.253.130 20:32, 19 July 2006 (CEST)
